SHELTERING

by John Yeo

Wandering through town, soaking up the sights, wonderful architecture reflecting the opulance of the recent past. Museums, fine art galleries, imposing statues and severe civic centre buildings. The snow was falling thick and fast, covering everywhere in a film of clean white powdery flakes. I tripped over a pair of legs portruding from a shop doorway. “Oi!” came a voice from within the spacious doorway. “I beg your pardon my friend”. The smell of alcohol, was intense, pouring from the doorway mingling with a pile of vomit on the pavement. “Why are you here?” “Just sheltering from a stormy life”

MYSTERIOUS ISLAND (6)

by John Yeo

Racing down into the atmosphere, the unidentified object crashed, leaving behind one heck of a huge crater and a plume of smoke that could be seen from miles around.”

The news presenter went on to describe the ensuing chaos. All flights from London’s Heathrow airport were cancelled until further notice. Marg snapped off the rolling news programme and immediately contacted the Brigadier’s organisational London number for instructions. Marg was informed transport would arrive to take her to Dover, where she would meet Captain Scarlett on the super yacht “Bue Dreams”. A limousine called at Marg’s office promptly for the journey, suitcases were stowed in the boot and Marg was on her way to the docks. As she settled back in luxurious comfort, the car picked up speed cruising through the countryside.

Two very powerful motorcycles screamed alongside the car forcing the driver off the road. Marg kept her head, ducked low, and reached for her cellphone. Suddenly the driver put his foot down and took off leaving the motorcyclists behind, neither of them noticed the innocuous car close behind.

PETER, PAUL AND MARY

by John Yeo

Peter and Paul were very close, brothers who took care of each other.
Since their miracle birth, their lives were entwined,
joined at the hip, a part of each other.
The separation operation, was a very risky affair.
After many hours under the surgeons knives,
they woke to a world living separate lives.
Separate souls with separate brains and separate personalities.
They have lived together all their lives,
competing and laughing with one another.
In the face of danger they stood together, mostly fighting each other,
Peer pressure to be unique was always very strong.
Mum and Dad washed their hands of the brothers at a very early age.
Peter and Paul at Uni. met a very pretty girl who was Mary.
They both fell violently in love.
Mary was flattered, very astute , she never returned their hints.
One day the brothers were locked in combat over Mary’s obvious charms.
“Stop! before you hurt each other,
I love you both equally, you will always be precious to me!”
Peter looked at Paul with mistrust in his eye and hatred in his heart,
“If what she says is true brother
perhaps we should never have been cut apart.”
Paul responded with a gentle remark.
“Brother and friend, be happy with Mary,
I am happy to be unique and free,
I am happy to be me! “

FRESH AIR

by John Yeo

The tension in the room had been slowly building to a crescendo. The news had had a devastating effect on the assembled directors and creative money men. The fantastic news had been leaked in advance, air was the new force that would drive everything in the future. Electric power was now redundant as were all the associated fuels and gasses that had previously kept the wheels of life turning.
The presenter was very passionate about his subject. Air, ordinary free air will provide endless power for everything in the future, at the touch of a button air would now produce endless supplies of power. A tiny alteration in the ingredients that make up fresh air is all that is required and the piped results would make up a free miracle fuel.
This bombshell provoked a very savage unexpected reaction from certain sections of the audience, particularly among the fuel and oil industry. This will affect many, many people, jobs and employment in our industries will be wiped out. Savagely demanding that this breakthrough should be hidden and buried, never to be heard of again.
Too late replied the presenter, the genie is now out of the lamp, a lamp that will in future be powered by fresh air.

ONCE ~100 Word challenge ~Velvet Verbosity

MEMORY

by John Yeo

Granddad, what do you see?
I see visions of life before you were born
Hardship and poverty on the farm.
Up at dawn, out in the fields
Working through till dusk.

~

Granddad, what do you feel?
I feel sorrow at the wars and violence now,
The fighting and the hunger far away
Children dying of thirst and disease
I am too old to intervene now.

~

Granddad, what would you change?
I would fight for truth and war renounce
I would spread my wings and travel
To lands far away to help the poor
I was as young as you, ONCE.

MYSTERIOUS ISLAND (5)

by John Yeo

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Silently as the people watched, the black hawk helicopter lifted into the air
The detonation of a rocket laid waste to one of the outhouses. Under attack and in danger, Marg and the team were quickly whisked away through a door leading to a flight of stairs down to a concrete bunker in the basement. Ripples of shock visibly ran through everyone as they raced down the stairs through a maze of tunnels emerging an hour later in a farmhouse, about a mile away. Marg managed to hitch a ride to the airport where she was soon safely on a flight back to England.
Later, Marg heard the sad news, several members of the Don’s family had been killed in the surprise raid. The plans laid at the meeting were to be put into action as revenge for this insult was now a matter of urgency. Marg was expected to report to the mysterious Island for training. The Brigadier was hopping mad~
